Google is headed your way!
Not only are we coming to campus, we’re busy solving a bunch of problems that might interest you too. Problems in global information access. Natural language processing. Large-scale system design. Machine translation. Artificial intelligence.
But it’s not all work. Google offers great benefits, collegial environments, and plenty of smart people to hang with.
Sound appealing? We really want to meet software engineers who are burning to solve big problems—and who wouldn’t mind working where great solutions are happily rewarded.
To apply, send your resume AND copies of your unofficial transcripts to [email protected]. Please write “Software Engineer” in the subject line. http://www.google.com/support/jobs/bin/answer.py?answer=25515
Want to find out more? We’ll be hosting an event at UBC where you can meet Google engineers and learn first-hand what it is like to work at our extraordinary company.

David will be talking about four software labs in Canada - Victoria, Toronto, Ottawa, Montreal - with a particular focus on the cutting edge work which is being done in Ottawa.
- Find out about the work being done in these labs and about the potential co-op and permanent opportunities with them.
- J9: the IBM virtual machine technology. It runs on your palm. It runs on your laptop. It runs on the worlds largest supercomputers.
- Eclipse: an open source, extensible development environment with base support for java, and extensions for Aspect J, C++, web development, workflow, or anything you desire, even games. This is the biggest threat to .NET today.
- Websphere Integration Developer: a new product built on top of Eclipse, which offers tooling to create e-business applications in a service oriented architecture. We push the envelope for visual programming. You can author your application using graphical data, interfaces, executable flow charts, state machines, business rules, and visual snippets.
This is an excellent opportunity to find out about the work being done in these labs and about the potential co-op and permanent opportunities with them.

From the website: The Extreme Blue program is IBM’s premier internship for top-notch students pursuing software development and MBA degrees. If you’re chosen for the program, you become part of a team working in one of a dozen Extreme Blue labs around the world. Your team’s challenge: develop the technology and business plan for a new product or service that addresses an existing market challenge. Through the program, interns have submitted more than 270 patent disclosures and contributed six projects to the open source community, two for alphaWorks, and helped create solutions for key clients and bring-to-market the next generation of IBM products. Not bad for just 12 weeks.
Unlike other intern programs that may relegate you to work on outdated technology, Extreme Blue teams work on leading technology that helps grow your skills and make you a more attractive candidate in the technology field. Interns in this high-performance environment get to roll up their sleeves and work with “hot” technology, like Linux, Grid computing, RFID, and Web services. Applications are due on January 31st, 2006 - better apply fast!
